For decades animal rights activists have been asking prospective dog owners not to buy their furry friends from breeders, but rather to rescue a dog from an animal shelter.
The reason: some breeders are more interested in profit than in the well-being of the animals and practice torturous breeding in order to emphasize certain characteristics of a breed.
The dogs often suffer greatly, but not only purebred breeds are affected.
This poor pug-greyhound mix proves that bad results can also – or even more so – be achieved with so-called hybrid dog breeds.
What are hybrid dogs?
Hybrid dogs, also known as designer dogs, are deliberate breeds from two different breeds.
In some cases, where the breed traits are a good match, the traits can combine positively – such as the popular Labradoodle.
However, if the breeders cross breeds that do not go together at all, severe deformities can result.
Fathered by pug and greyhound: This is Petunia
The bitch Petunia was bred from a pug and an Italian greyhound – everyone recognizes immediately that this cannot go together.
Petunia’s breeder apparently didn’t want to admit that or didn’t think about it.
The result now looks like this: Petunia is as small as a pug but as emaciated as a greyhound. But the worst thing is her head.
In addition to a pug’s flat nose, Petunia has severely swollen eyes and a crooked, protruding lower jaw with prominent crooked teeth.
You can see at first glance how this poor animal is tormented. In addition, it combines the sportiness of a greyhound with the shortness of breath of a pug – a breeder can hardly think of anything more illogical.
The Savior makes Petunia’s plight public
Petunia lives with a woman who works as an animal rights activist. She saved Petunia and now tries to make her life as comfortable as possible despite her suffering.
To draw attention to the animal cruelty caused by such breeds, she shared a video of Petunia on TikTok.
The video went viral in no time. The users are shocked by the dog’s appearance, but many also express their sympathy.
As Rising Phoenix writes:
«I hope she doesn’t have any health problems. Certain races really shouldn’t be mixed.»
It would save dogs a lot of suffering if all breeders were aware of their responsibilities and respected dogs as living beings with feelings.
