Let’s start right away with my insider tip, the storage container for pet food from the company Iris Ohyama. The polypropylene feeder comes with four removable casters and a scoop. Thanks to the rollers, you can easily move the feeding bin. If you don’t need the castors, they can be easily removed.
The barrel is 46 cm long, 34 cm wide and 50.5 cm tall on the outside, which corresponds to a capacity of up to 45 liters. The equivalent of about 15 kg of dry food for your dog fits in there.
The container is sealed so that the feed always stays fresh. Thanks to the transparent material, you can always tell at first glance which lining it is.
Curver feed container 20kg
The next feed bin in the test comes from Curver and has dimensions of 49.3 x 27.8 x 60.5 cm. Thanks to the comfortable size, up to 20 kg fit in the bin. If that is too much for you, you can also buy a 10 kg ton or even small feed containers.
The container is designed with dog motifs, making it a real eye-catcher. This means that the feeding bin is not an annoying eyesore in the home, but makes a significant contribution to the design of the home and the feeling of well-being.
There are two openings, a larger one for filling the bin and a smaller one for everyday use. You can use the practical scoop to fill the food into the feeding bowls through the small opening.
Thanks to the good seal, the bin is absolutely odour-tight.
Trixie Feed Barrel
Last but not least, my award winner. The Trixie food barrel is a white container. It is available in three different sizes with a capacity of 15l, 25l or 40l. So you can choose a suitable product depending on the size and number of your dogs.
The container is tightly sealed so you don’t have to smell the food. At the same time, the feed is effectively protected from pests and moisture.
If you buy multiple containers of the same size, you can connect them. This way the barrels are not standing individually and take up less space.

Why do you need a dog food bin?
Basically, a feeding bin is not an absolute must. Finally, the feed can also be stored in the original packaging. However, there are a few reasons for a feed bin.
First, a feed barrel is more appealing in appearance. It just looks more organized and nicer if you have a bin (possibly even with a nice design) in the apartment or if you leave individual bags lying around. At the latest when you use several types of food at the same time, it quickly looks messy with bags.
Secondly, storing in a bag is not always very hygienic. While some bags are resealable, many are not. This allows moisture to get to the feed faster. Pests also have free access. The feed spoils faster.
Also, some dogs are smart and find they can open the bag themselves with their teeth or claws. If the dog helps himself, you can no longer control the amount of food and the apartment usually looks very dirty because many dogs tend to distribute their food.
Third, most bins are odorless. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the smell of dog food. I find the smell very unpleasant and could not live with being confronted with it all day. That’s why I use a feeding bin that doesn’t let the smell through.
Feeding barrels make everyday life easier for me personally. It’s tidier, I don’t have to smell the dog food, and the food is well protected from pests, moisture, and my greedy dog.
You should pay attention to these criteria when buying a feed bin for dogs
A feed bin should be stable and large enough to hold a lot of feed. With most manufacturers you can choose between different sizes, such as 10 kg, 15 kg, 20 kg and 25 kg.
If you’re feeding multiple types of food, I recommend choosing containers that can be linked or stacked. That saves space.
It is also important that the material is food safe and odorless. A beautiful design is also desirable. I also find it practical if a feed scoop is included.
