Meloxoral for dogs is a pain relieverwhich is used for both acute and chronic pain.
This is when the dog is struggling with problems of the musculoskeletal system.
The following guide tells you exactly how Meloxoral works, what side effects can occur and what alternatives there are.
Meloxoral for dogs: what it is and what it is used for
If a dog is experiencing musculoskeletal pain, a veterinarian may prescribe Canine Meloxoral for relief.
The active ingredient meloxicam belongs to the group of so-called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, NSAIDs for short.
Meloxicam has the property of blocking prostaglandins.
These substances, in turn, are largely responsible for triggering inflammation, pain and fever.
Meloxoral can be used for sudden pain and inflammation in dogs, as well as part of a long-term pain-relieving therapy.
Meloxoral for dogs is available in a strength of 1.5 mg/mg – and in different filling volumes.
The correct use and dosage of meloxoral for dogs
The dog receives on the first day 0.1 ml meloxoral per kilogram of body weight.
From day 2, he receives a dosage of 0.5 ml meloxoral per kilogram of body weight at intervals of 24 hours.
For example, if your dog weighs 9.5 kilograms, he will receive the following amount of meloxoral/meloxicam:
- Day 1: 0.95 ml meloxoral/0.95 ml meloxicam
- Day 2: 4.75 ml meloxoral/4.75 ml meloxicam
However, there is different information here, and so the dosage on day 1 should also be 0.2 ml meloxoral per kilogram of body weight.
On the following days, this is then only 0.1 ml meloxoral per kilogram body weight of the fur nose.
Important
Since an exact dosage is very important, you should discuss this with the vet in advance – and never give Meloxoral to your dog on your own!
You can easily give Meloxoral into your dog’s mouth with the enclosed medication syringe.
This is divided into milliliter levels, which makes dosing very easy.
The fact that it is a liquid medicine should also make it much easier to administer than a tablet.
If your dog is still a bit fussy, you can also mix Meloxoral with its wet food.
How long does it take for meloxoral to work in dogs?
Although meloxoral is also a drug that provides relief from acute pain, it does not have an immediate effect, but only after 3-4 days.
In some cases, it may also be the case that the effect of meloxicam only occurs after about a week and you can only then see an improvement in your dog.
If, after about two weeks, you have the feeling that Meloxoral is absolutely not helping your dog, you should consult your veterinarian to find a more effective solution.
Since you only give your dog meloxoral once a day, the effect should last for this period of time.
What side effects can meloxoral cause in dogs?
The mild side effects that can be triggered by meloxoral in dogs include Vomiting and diarrhea as well as exhaustion and reluctance to eat.
These side effects usually go away on their own after a few days and are due to the fact that the dog first has to get used to the medication.
