A dog bed, a dog, four protruding legs – I saw this sight every day. My dog is really big, which is why the regular dog beds have always been way too small for him.
Although my darling still lay down in the much too small lying area, this is not a long-term solution, because the unnatural lying position can lead to joint and back problems.

From what size does my dog need an XXL dog bed?
It is hardly possible to give a general answer to this question. Each manufacturer has its own definition of XXL, so the dimensions sometimes differ extremely. For example, one manufacturer defines a certain size as L, which is already XXXL at another manufacturer.
That’s why you shouldn’t use the «XXL» designation, but rather the dimensions of the dog beds on offer.
A dog needs a dog bed that offers him enough space. Your four-legged friend should also fit in the bed when lying stretched out, without their legs or head hanging over. It must also be possible to turn over in bed.
It’s always easiest to try out a dog bed in the store so that you can at least get a first impression of the right size. Even if you can’t find a suitable size for your dog on site, you can still find out how much larger the dog bed needs to be when you test it.
Some manufacturers also provide size charts. With their help you can measure your dog and then use the measurements to determine the right size.
Pros and cons of XXL dog bed
A dog bed XXL or larger also offers large dogs enough space to take a comfortable, back-friendly and healthy sleeping position. In this way you prevent pain and tension and enable your dog to have a restful sleep.
A large dog bed is also suitable for several small dogs. For example, I know many small dogs who prefer to lie in twos or threes in bed than all by themselves. Of course, they need more space for this, which a large dog bed can offer.
Basically, there is no such thing as a too big dog bed. Dogs in particular that dream intensively and move a lot during their sleep even benefit from a bed that is «too big» because they cannot fall out so quickly.
However, some dogs find it more comfortable when they are a little confined and not completely exposed. If you have such a four-legged friend, you can simply put one or more cushions in a large dog bed and thus limit the space. This way you remain flexible if you should buy a larger dog or a second small dog.
The disadvantages of an XXL dog bed are the higher price and the larger area.
Of course, the price of an XXL dog bed is higher than that of normal-sized beds, since a lot more material had to be used. However, it is not advisable to save at this point, as a dog bed that is too small can cause serious health problems.
Especially if you have a small apartment, the issue of «space» comes into play, because of course an XXL dog bed takes up a relatively large area. However, your four-legged friend has to lie down somewhere anyway and then it is usually better if he has a fixed place to sleep than lying around in the middle of the path.

When buying a dog bed, there are a few criteria to consider:

As already mentioned, a dog bed must be big enough for your four-legged friend to be able to lie relaxed and turn around. A dog bed that is too small ensures that your dog either does not use it at all because the narrowness is uncomfortable for him or that your dog adopts an unnatural, unhealthy sleeping position.
