A glimmer of hope: saves a dog with ten puppies from flood waters
While many animals lost their lives in the floods, there are also stories of rescues that are encouraging: for example, a dog with ten puppies was rescued from the floods. Dog mother Nadiya was infested with parasites and traumatized by what had happened. vet Dr. Valentina Danyliv was able to treat the bitch and her offspring successfully. “We have given the entire canine family anti-parasitic and anti-tick products and thoroughly screened them. The community is now looking for the owners or for a new loving home for the dogs. Knowing that Nadiya and all her puppies are safe and well is a glimmer of hope at this devastating and difficult time,» says veterinarian Dr. Danyliv.

The SAC teams (Stray Animal Care) have been on duty in various cities in Ukraine since 2012. A total of 30,000 stray dogs and cats in over 60 communities have been successfully neutered and vaccinated, and given additional medical treatment where necessary. According to WHO estimates, there are 200 million stray dogs worldwide, many of which live in Eastern Europe.
After a short break due to the outbreak of war, resumed its activities in Ukraine in April 2022 and has been providing much-needed help to stray animals ever since. This includes those already living on the streets, as well as pets and shelter animals that had to be abandoned when their owners fled or fell victim to the attacks.
