Engineering works are capable of surprising us in many ways. However, since ancient times, all cultures have dreamed of creating structures that soar through the skies, building gigantic works, such as those that today are part of the list of the largest buildings in the world.

In the select list of these buildings are those that coincide in a height greater than 400 meters and in being located in important cities of the world, with high levels of economic and therefore architectural development.

Empire State Building: It was for more than forty years the largest building in the world. Inaugurated in 1931, this construction located in New York City, is 223 meters high and has 102 floors.

International Commerce Center: the official name of this skyscraper is Union Square Phase and it is part of the financial center of the city of Kowloon in Hong Kong. Its striking design has made it one of the most well-known buildings in the modern world and clearly, its height of 484 meters and 107 floors places it on this list.

Shanghai World Financial Center: it is the second tallest building in Shanghai, second only to the Shanghai Tower. Its imposing design stands on a construction of 492 meters and 101 floors. Its design is considered unique in the world, since no other structure resembles it.

Taipei 101: With an imposing height of 508 meters and 106 floors, this representative building located in Taiwan is the eighth tallest skyscraper in the world. Particularly, this tower stands out for its ecological design and anti-seismic engineering, considering that it is located in one of the places where most earthquakes and hurricanes occur.

Willis Tower: This emblematic 502-meter-high tower is located in the American city of Chicago.

One World Trade Center: It is the main building of the complex that is part of the reconstruction of the old World Trade Center, destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11 in New York City. Its height is 541 meters, distributed over 109 floors.

Abraj Al Bait Towers: This 601-meter, 120-storey tower represents the peak of a group of buildings found in central Saudi Arabia.

Burj Khalifa: Today it is the tallest skyscraper in the world with a clear difference over its closest competitors. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, it is 829.8 meters high and has 163 floors. Currently, and especially in Asian cities, new structures are under construction that, thanks to their design, aspire to a place on this select list.
