JADE DEITIES

From immemorial times the ancient civilizations have rendered worship of the gods, they being the center of their religion and in a way, that governed the actions of society, as these were considered supreme guides. Regardless of the civilization, the place or the time, the gods or deities have always been present in the religion of many cultures, preserving their power of veneration and homage.

According to this, in various civilizations such as the Chinese, Mayan and Aztec, there were great gods who formed an important part of their culture; but there was a stone which revered almost as much or more as these deities: the beautiful jade stone. This was the object of worship and veneration for these cultures.

Jade was a gift from the gods, symbolizes eternity, immortality, peace, serenity and good luck; and the importance possessed to their gods gave him names related to it. Many of these gods were represented with these stones. Now, we know some of these jade deities and their importance to each civilization:

Jade Emperor. He is known by his Chinese name: Yù Huáng. This important deity in Chinese mythology is considered the supreme god. They give many powers and great wisdom; according to the beliefs It is the ruler of heaven and earth.

The Phoenix and the Dragon. They are two of the four spirits of the Chinese legend, regarded as animal deities, which symbolize good omens, prosperity, good luck, courage, and perseverance, besides being the source of life. Over the years it has been used jade to make images of these deities as ornaments.

Jade Buddha. In Thailand is located the Wat Phra Kaew, known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha; paradoxically this is not made of glass, but was carved from a single jade stone. It is a sculpture about 66 cm high, which has a dress made of gold. This Buddha is worshiped in this temple that promises prosperity.

Tlazolteotl-Ixcuina. This is an Aztec goddess of love, also regarded as purifier, mother and creator; immortalized in a statue made of jade. In this sculpture you can see a woman giving birth in squats or squatting position, she can be seen leaving the head and arms of the newborn, the woman’s face of her evidences a very strong pain, because of the act of giving birth.

This is the way that jade, for millions of years, has been considered a sacred stone, elected to worship the deities of different religions and cultures thanks to its symbolism and beauty, always jade stone of the Gods.
