This fearsome road has the name “Bayburt D915”, and it has been considered the “highway of the abyss”, for having an exorbitant number of deaths in recent years; surpassing the famous «Death Road» of the Latin country boliviadue to the degree of risk it presents.

This road was built in the year 1916, by some Russian soldiers; its trajectory is hair-raising, as it climbs to a height of 2,035 meters above sea level, in “Soganli Dagi”. The most erect part is extremely frightening; since, at any moment, disasters such as avalanches, heavy snowfall and landslides; On some occasions, the access roads to the highway can be blocked, due to the dangerous blocks of ice found on the road, this being a route with extreme curves, not suitable for beginner drivers..

It also has some 106 kilometers -66 miles- long, with some very tight curves and without any type of railings in the limits that must be had in order not to fall into the chilling precipice. Because of all the danger involved, the road has been closed to the public in the winter season; as strong winds of snow and ice are a «certain death» spread.

The worst of all is that the «Bayburt» highway has been the main road for the locals, as it is the only access road in that area; On the other hand, the «Route of Death» has been used with a tourist approach, for those extreme and curious groups of the world.

Bayburt, is the name of this road, located in the Northeast of Turkey and known for being a mountainous region, characterized by its expressive and high River “Coruh”. It is considered a city of great importance due to the ancient Silk Roadthrough which they have passed Marco Polo and the famous Turkish traveler Evliya Celeby; also for its beautiful physical historical conservation, since tourists have come to appreciate the wonderful remains of the Byzantine Castle, countless mosques, Turkish baths, an exuberant amount of tombstones, the spectacular underground city of “Catalcesme”, and lastly, the famous waterfall “Sirakayalar”.

The city of Bayburt was invaded thousands of years ago by the Roman empire; after its division it belonged to the state of Heldia, after which the Arabs claimed it as their own. Without a doubt, this eccentric city has thousands of excuses to be visited; but its dangerous road makes its access a great feat due to the risk it presents in its path, which is not at all aesthetic, nor comfortable for passers-by.
