Brasilianite, despite not being a gem, is still quite precious. It is a mineral, belonging to the group of phosphates, more specifically, it is an aluminum sodium phosphate. The name Brasilianite was given because it was in Brazil where it was found for the first time, in 1944. It is a precious stone of great beauty, extremely rare, highly sought after and appreciated around the world.
It is a mineral that has a distinctive yellow or greenish yellow. Brasilianite can be found in granite-type pegmatite rocks with phosphate minerals, since it forms in them. In addition, it can be found in sedimentary and metamorphic deposits.
The main deposits of Brasilianite are found in Brazil, Spain, Austria, Germany, Canada. The most significant deposit of Brasilianite is found in Minas Gerais, in Brazil. However, it has been found in Maine, New Hampshire, and Arizona in the US, as well as in Rapid Creek in Canada.
It is very common for Brasilianite to be confused with apatite, tourmaline, topaz, chrysoberyl, however, it has physical and optical constants that allow it to be easily distinguished.
It has a slightly low hardness, 5.5 on the Mohs scale, and although it is a mineral that was recently discovered, the samples that have gem quality and are carved have great beauty and are often used in jewelry. However, it is highly sought after as a gemstone, being a very popular gem for collectors.
Many holistic aspects are associated with Brasilianite. It is said to open the heart chakra. In addition, it is considered to be ideal for meditation and the balance of energies, because it transmits harmony and understanding.
As usual, it is carved in facetsand is presented in the form of perfect crystals, which are grouped in druses, in pegmatites, being very often a precious stone of excellent quality.
The largest crystals of Brasilianite that were found in Brazil have remained in private collections, and that is why gemstones are extremely rare and, in fact, it is very difficult to get crystals larger than a few centimeters in size, which is a determining factor of its cost.
In recent years, some beautiful crystals have been produced, surprisingly large and with perfectly defined faces, and some of these have even been seen with muscovite leaves and a strong silvery shine, embodied in their parent rock. However, these samples cannot be used as gems, although they are found in museums and private collections.
This gem is simply a pleasure to look at, with its beautiful shades and facets, and any jewel that contains it will make it look regal and distinguished, it is so particular that even celebrities will be tempted to have such a high quality gem, well either in a jewel or as a sample in your private collections. It is a wonderful gem, whatever your taste in jewelry and gemstones.
