Black is one of the most impressive and enigmatic colors that exist; the integration of all the colors of the rainbow is white, while the color black is the absence of all of them. This unique detail allowed it to be considered at the time of impressionism as a «non-color» element; however, some painters of that time described it as the «king of all colors», and it is currently defined as “a color without color”.
The psychology of the color black is associated with the different emotions and inclinations that it conveys. «Eva Heller», renowned German sociologist and psychologist, who died in 2008, tells us in her book «Psychology of Color», that black is the favorite shade of youth, because it is always at the forefront of fashion; but after the age of 50, no person considers it preferred, since at that age, it is associated with the end of life.
In general, the color black conceives impartiality and reason, contrasting the differences between good and evil. Likewise, when it is adjusted with another color, it totally changes the meaning, an example of this is red, which individually represents love; however, combined with black, it identifies hate.
In the West, the color black is considered more negative than positive, but in that same culture, it is highlighted as superiority, snobbery and distinction. It is also conferred as a form of expression that it is not comparable to any other color; associating with shadows in semi-darkness, which reflect the absence of necessary light; In addition, it is a succession of specifically masculine conditions, among which are the security, strength and capacities of the masculine gender.
Likewise, the black color concentrates the attention of people, towards the face of whoever wears a dress with that characteristic; on the other hand, has the peculiarity of showing how old or young people are, when wearing an outfit with this hue, distinguishing itself for being opaque, and strong at the same time. Equally, is the most respected coloration and although the spaces decorated with these shades look small; There is no doubt that black is the color of the great.
However, the forerunner of the psychology of color, the German poet and scientist «Johann Wolfgang von Goethe», stated that what is perceived through the appreciation of color also depends on the perception of the object, and does not obey only the element or light that is projected at that moment. For this reason, we can estimate the color black according to the evaluation of each person, a very important aspect that will make the difference, from the optics or point of view of ourselves.
The beauty of life can be appreciated through color. Black is not free from that notion. From the deepest darkness we can find the beauty of things; just as the blind do, when they discover perfection through the invisible.
