MAGNETISM IN DAILY LIFE

Being an invisible force, magnetism is found in daily life without us noticing it, but that does not mean that we are outside its influence, since naturally or artificially, it can occur in objects that contain magnets or ferromagnetic materials, and even in living beings.

Known for the first time in ancient Greece, given its presence in a mineral with natural magnetism called lodestone. One of the first applications that this mineral would have would be as a compass in maritime navigation.since it was discovered that the earth behaved like a great magnet and that terrestrial magnetism allowed orientation in any part of the world, always pointing to the north pole.

Although these were the beginnings of magnetism, currently its applications have multiplied and of course, our homes are the best example of it., since almost all the technology that surrounds us bases its operation on this force. This is how we can identify various devices that we generally use, and that have magnets inside or generate magnetic fields, among them are televisions, computers, telephones and radios.

However, this is just a sample of the widespread use of magnetism, because in addition to magnets and electromagnets, not only in our homes but also outside of themwe can find magnetism in supports and magnetic strips present in toys, motors, generators, vehicles, bag closures, credit card memories, or electric guitars, among others.

Although the list seems endless, perhaps one of the most important applications or uses is in health, since with inventions such as magnetic resonances, diseases that can be treated in time are detected. Although we can also add magnetotherapy and biomagnetism, as part of the arsenal we have to treat certain conditions, such as arthritis, circulatory disorders, stress or pain, among others; using for it magnetic fields on the body. Although its effectiveness has not been proven by convincing studies, there are people who claim that it works.

On the other hand, it is important to recognize that we interact with magnetism within our planet, but we cannot live outside of it without its influence., since according to studies carried out by NASA, the prolonged absence of attraction to the earth’s magnetic field can cause osteoporosis and severe depression in us. This is why spacecraft have artificial magnetic fields, to reduce these effects on the health of astronauts.

As can be seen either inside or outside the planet, currently the development of our life as we know it is closely linked to magnetism., making it almost impossible to escape its grasp. And therefore, it would not be unreasonable to think that with the unstoppable advance of technology we will surely have a greater presence of this force in our lives, although we hope that it will benefit our health and better living conditions. And you, what do you think of magnetism?
