Pentacles are one of the oldest symbols of humanity, and have been used by many cultures as a protective talisman. And although there is a lot of confusion with the pentagram, it is not the same. The pentagram is the five-pointed star; while the pentacle would be that same star, but enclosed in a circle. Neverthelessunites all aspects of man: the body with the mind and the spiritual with the profane.
Each point of the pentacle represents a certain energy. The former constitute the four elements that coincide with the cardinal points: North-Earth; South-Fire; East-Air; West-Water.
Likewise, the central figure of the pentacle has been given resemblance to the form of man. In this way, the upper tip personifies the spirit: the immortal, unbreakable, the eternal and the spiritual connection with the earth; the upper left point is represented by the Air element and encompasses the thought, intelligence, and the right arm of the human being; the upper right tip is dominated by the element of Water; it is the cycle of life that begins and ends, where joy, sadness and anger are immersed; it also means the right leg of the human being.
The lower left point symbolizes the earth together with all the seeds that Mother Earth provides to the human being; and at the same time, the left part of each one of us. Likewise, the lower right point represents Fire, the impetus that we all carry inside that fights against understanding and reason; and represents the left arm of man.
Equally, the five interlocking triangles also have their connotation: symbolize the strength and the five senses of the human being (sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste). The human appearance in the circle is the fusion of our energies together with those of the Goddess (the Earth, the Moon and the Cosmos) transforming into the force of the Universe; furthermore, the phases of life that are birth, initiation, love, rest and death are incorporated in the pentacle.
In this way, the pentacles for many religions have had different meanings, and it is believed that they can be used to ward off evil forces.. For satanic beliefs, carnal desire is far above the spiritual, therefore, they use the symbol backwards; instead, for us, it is the channel to defeat our demons.
In this sense, Thomas and Pavitt quote Rennet Bishop of Peterborough, and state the following about the pentacle: «When it is outlined in the body of a man, it indicates the five places where the Savior was wounded, and therefore, the demons fear this one.”
Pentacles are emblems with magical, religious and spiritual meanings. sacred that are related to the beliefs and cultures of each person; however, since ancient times all his followers have used this ancient symbol in a very special way; which means that it is the union of the elements and the spirit in perfect harmony.
