The 10 Most Challenging Star Locations in Astrology

There are some poor zodiac placements in the natal chart that require additional work when it comes to the different qualities and characteristics that they represent.

Depending on where the different planets and certain aspects fall in your natal chart, you’ll feel a different influence, and there are some locations that are objectively more challenging.

While many astrologers would say that there are no real negatives to birth charts, there are those that represent greater difficulties and challenges in life.

Although your natal chart cannot be changed, it does not mean that you are condemned for these aspects. Instead, it can mean that you will have more work to do when it comes to overcoming certain things in life.

These are the 10 most challenging zodiac locations in astrology.

1. Moon/Saturn Conjunction, Opposition or Square

The Moon represents your emotional self while Saturn has to do with restrictions and limits. This means that this aspect tends to be extremely hard on themselves and so receiving positive things in life can be particularly challenging.

When the Moon and Saturn are so close, it literally prevents you from feeling your own truth in many cases. This means you can’t see when you’re doing well or when other people care about you. The greater the negativity, the more it tends to grow.

2. Mercury/Uranus in Square or Opposition

Your Mercury sign is how you think and communicate. Along with Uranus, the planet of the unexpected, this aspect often brings mental health issues.

Not to say that this is a guarantee, however, this aspect is very much related to those who struggle with mental health, be it depression, anxiety or even schizophrenia. It is the opposing forces of mind versus Uranus that are so unpredictable.

Under this energy, it can seem like there is a block to even becoming healthier due to the nature of Uranus. It is a very hard transit to be able to be grounded and stable.

3. Neptune/Mercury Square, Conjunction, or Opposition

Transits involving Mercury tend to be incredibly challenging, and when Neptune is also involved it could indicate problems with addiction.

Neptune is the escapist. The one who wants to experience other dimensions and worlds because he doesn’t know how to live within it. Strong Neptune placements can imply significant addiction and mental health issues.

4. Any location in the 12th House

In astrology, the 12th house rules your sense of spirituality and beliefs. It also means that here too you can fall prey to fantasy and wishful thinking. This is your inner self and your world, which means that almost any location here can bring a life of disappointment and pain.

For example, with the Moon in your twelfth house, you would want to share close relationships with others, but you would also fear them, causing you to reject exactly what you want. With Mars in your twelfth house, you find it extremely difficult to express strong emotions or passions. You seem almost insensitive and others can usually take advantage of you.

5. Moon in Scorpio

The Moon rules your emotions and your interior. This is how you feel, but also how you process information. With your Moon in Scorpio, create a very intense personality. Everything feels in the extremes; extreme passion, but also extreme jealousy and skepticism.

Moon in Scorpio is the one to put a tracking device in your car so they can know where you went. It is also the aspect that is most likely to have a restraining order against them, as they tend to become obsessive.

6. North Node Locations

When you think of the life you feel you are meant to live, you are thinking of your North Node. This aspect of the moon rules your destiny, but when you have a planet like Saturn or Uranus in opposition, conjunction or square to your North Node, it creates problems and difficulties.

A negative North Node placement can mean that you will always feel restricted from moving forward in your life or that just when you feel stable and healthy, something unpredictable happens and you feel like you are back at the beginning. The challenging locations of the North Node can make happiness and contentment something in life that you are only chasing and not really receiving.

7. Most Virgo Locations

Within each sign there is something good, but with Virgo, it is incredibly challenging to overcome the obstacles and reap the rewards.

Virgo locations like the Moon, Venus, or even Mars make it incredibly difficult for you to be receptive to others. Even if you love someone, you can seem cold, uninterested, and without the ability to connect. You are a very logical sign, but there is a challenge that comes from seeing everything in black and white because that is not life.

You can also be self-centered and forget that others have needs that are different from yours. Money can often figure heavily on your list of what’s most important to you, meaning you’ll often try to make up for a lack of presence by buying your way into love.

8. Gemini/Sun, Moon, Mars or Venus

The zodiac sign of Gemini is really a difficult sign to say something positive about. If you’re hearing someone talk about his crazy ex, probably a karmic partner, who they had to deeply heal from, chances are he’s a Gemini.

It doesn’t have to be that way, but because of the sense of duality they have, they usually seem to have split personalities instead of just being a down-to-earth, well-rounded person. They can get angry in a split second, be extremely jealous, and even remember a completely different reality than the one that originally happened, as long as it suits their needs or what they are trying to make others believe.

Unfortunately for most Gemini placements, the message is that they just aren’t consistent.

9. Saturn in the 5th or 7th house

Saturn is the planet of restriction, the one that stops you and makes you learn everything you need before continuing. His motto really is work now, play later.

The fifth house is the part of your life that represents joy and happiness. With Saturn here, it will feel like tremendous work and sacrifice to find happiness, and when you do, it will be fleeting.

In House 7, the sector that governs your love relationships, love will be delayed. Either you will be in a long-distance love affair, you will fall into unrequited love, or you will allow your career to take precedence over love.

Saturn in both houses means that not only will happiness be difficult to achieve, but a healthy and lasting relationship will be difficult as well.

10. Pluto in the 2nd House

Pluto is the planet of death and secrets. In the 2nd House, which represents what you value (both in money and in people), it can mean that both people and money tend to leave your life quite often.

This can begin in childhood with the death of a parent or sibling. As you get older, it can translate into endless love affairs that seem to suddenly die out through ghosts or obstructions. Finances have the same influence, and this means that everything you acquire will be lost just as quickly.

This is an extremely difficult location for wealth or long-term relationships, as Pluto’s nature is to cause destruction.
