Insert Key Definition

The insert key is a key on computer keyboards, mainly used to switch between two modes of text input from the keyboard. To switch between both modes, simply press the INS key.

One of the modes (insert or insert mode), inserts the text that is typed directly from where the cursor is located. In the other mode (overwrite or replace mode), when you type the inserted text it replaces the text that follows the cursor. The default mode on Windows is Insert Mode.

Currently this function is limited to some text editors, for example, it will not work in Notepad, nor in the Google Chrome browser (in some form, for example). In change s it works in WordPad or in Microsoft Word.

The image shows the Insert or Insert key, which is usually grouped together with Start (Home), PgUp, PgDn, Delete (Delete) and End (End).

Other uses of the Insert key

In Windows, the Insert key pressed together with the Shift key invokes the Paste function.

The Insert key is also used in some games to fulfill some function of that game.
