Visitor Question or Comment:

Hello. Excuse my ignorance but I have not been able to be clear;- I need to know how many Kbps are equivalent to a 10 Megas plan, because I do the speed tests and they never give me 10 megas as a result, the speed is always expressed in Kbps in Mbps, the The last one I did (fast.com/es) gave me: 3.6 Mbps.
Thanks.

It’s very simple. If you have contracted 10 Megas of internet speed, it is 10 Mbps (megabit per second), also equivalent to 10,000 kbps (kilobit per second).

The speed test that you have tested tells you 3.6 Mbps download, which is much lower than the 10 Mbps that they should offer you.

In any case, that does not imply that they are giving you less speed because the problem may be in your home, your Wi-Fi connection (the wireless one)… it may be that your area is saturated or, well, many other reasons that I will not analyze here.

To test the real speed of your internet connection, what you should do is have a network cable and connect the computer to the cable modem or router that gives you internet. When you directly connect both devices, you should disconnect your computer from Wi-Fi and it will automatically connect to the internet through the network cable.

Now you must run the internet speed tests again, this way you will know the exact speed that your internet company is offering you at that moment, without going through the wireless connection. If you continue to be discharged, you must claim your company.

If now the speed gives you much higher, it means that the problem is in the wifi connection. The problem could be the router, a saturation of the channel you use, a bad position of the router, etc, etc… this is the subject for another query.
