(previously called Fedora Core). It is a Linux distribution, developed by the community that supports the Fedora Project and is sponsored by Red Hat.
It is a complete general purpose operating system, containing only free and open source software.
In general, a new Fedora release comes out every six months. Fedora is a spin-off of the original Red Hat Linux distribution, and is intended to replace the «home» distributions of Red Hat Linux.
Features of Fedora
* Fedora supports x86, x86-64, and PowerPC architectures.
* Supports networks installed over HTTP, FTP and NFS.
* The default desktop environment is GNOME, and includes KDE in some versions.
* The bootloader is GNU GRUB by default.
* Fedora is designed to be easy to install and configure, including graphical installers and tools.
* The default file system is ext3 on LVM.
* Contains only a small selection of software packages (about 8 thousand), but there are several repositories available with extra software to complete this distribution, but many are not official Fedora (and some may even infringe patents).
* Your default browser is Firefox from version Fedora Core 3 and higher
* Includes the OpenOffice.org office suite from version 4.
