In computing, internal memory refers to that memory that is essential for the operation of the computer and that is housed on the motherboard. Internal memory consists of RAM memory and ROM memory.
It is often called «internal memory» because, unlike secondary or external memory, these memories cannot be easily removed by non-technical users; they are also located in the most «internal» components of a computer. In addition, they are the only memories that are directly accessed by the CPU through memory buses.
While the external memory serves for the storage of data in a more permanent way, such as hard drives, optical discs, etc.
Location of internal memories
As its word implies, internal memories are an «internal» part of the computer.
They are located on the motherboard of the computer. RAM memory is located in the sockets for RAM memory. While the ROM memory is located in the CMOS BIOS.
