(cooler, fan, cler). A fan used in computer cases and other electronic devices to cool them. Usually the hot air is exhausted from inside the device with the coolers. It can also perform a cleaning function, as it can remove dirty (lint) air from inside the device.
Where are hardware coolers used?
Coolers are used especially in power supplies, usually in the back of the computer case. Additional coolers for the microprocessor and boards that can overheat are currently also included. Sometimes they are even used in different parts of the cabinet for general cooling.
In general, the coolers in desktop PCs are continuously on, while in laptops they tend to turn on and off automatically depending on the cooling needs (for energy savings).
Cooler working well
The lack, obstruction or breakage of a cooler can end up with a device unusable due to excess temperature.
The coolers are one of the elements that, in operation, are usually the noisiest in a computer. For this reason, they must be kept clean, oiled and of good quality. The old fans could produce sounds of up to 50 decibels, however, the current ones are at 20 decibels.
Tips for the proper functioning of the cooler:
– Do not obstruct the fan’s air outlet.
– Keep it away from walls and surfaces that get hot.
– The coolers are usually relatively silent, so an excess of noise can mean a problem (lack of oil, deformity of the blades or the blades touch some cable or material when they move).
– Check the coolers regularly to know that they work.
Currently, computers also include detection and notification of cooler operation. In the past, coolers could break down and stop working without the user noticing, causing the computer to increase its temperature and producing all kinds of errors.
The coolers should never be obstructed with any object, as this can cause the computer to overheat.
