.Org is a type of TLD domain used for organizational websites, although it can currently be registered by any company or person for any use.
.Org just means organization.
It was one of the original domains established on January 1, 1985 along with .com, .us, .edu, .gov, .mil and .net. .org domains have been operated since January 1, 2003 by the Public Interest Registry.
Many countries also have second level domains in the form «.org.xx» or «.or.xx», for example: .org.ar, .org.mx, .org.br, etc.
In the US, .org domains are mostly associated with charitable non-profit organizations, open source movements, etc.
