Simple system definition

A simple system is one that has few component parts and, therefore, few relationships between them to function.

It is a way of classifying systems according to their complexity: simple systems or complex systems.

Examples of simple systems are: the wheel, the lever, the pulley, the wedge, the clamp, the inclined plane.

Also a complex system can be simplified when studying it, using greater abstraction, thus allowing a faster and easier way to understand its operation.

For example, a four-stroke engine is complex in its operation, but by simplifying the system it is possible to understand it with a couple of parts and subsystems.

Characteristics of simple systems

• Few component parts.

• Few or no subsystems.

• Simple and direct relationships between its parts.

• Its operation is simple.

• Its study is easy.
