WordPad Definition

WordPad is a free word processor that is included with most versions of Microsoft Windows. It is more advanced than simple Notepad, but not as advanced as Microsoft Word in the Office suite. Its original name was Write in Windows 1.0x, later changed to WordPad in Windows 95.

Allows you to format a text, supporting the RTF format. In old versions it also saved in format for Word 6.0 documents. It also supports other formats like Unicode, MS-DOS text format, etc. It supported the WRI (read-only) format produced by Write, but was removed.

The current WordPad does not have table handling or spelling error correction, but it does have speech recognition and TSF. It also allows you to open Word documents (sometimes with formatting problems) but does not allow you to save them.
