Definition of dual-core

(Double core, double core, twin core, double heart). A dual-core processor is a single chip that contains two different processors (or execution cores) on the same integrated circuit. Intel commercially calls them «Core Duo».

Those processors with a single core are mono-core.

It is not the same as a dual CPU or double CPU, which refers to two separate CPUs that work together (they do not share the same IC).

For more information see: multi-core.
