the mayor claudia lopez gave details of the confinement that the capital will have this weekend and answered some of the most frequently asked questions by Bogota citizens.
It is no secret to anyone that the third wave of the coronavirus is hitting our ankles and promises to be the same or more serious than the previous two. The example of what is happening in other countries such as Chile, where they have been in strict confinement for several weeks, motivated national and local authorities to take extreme measures to avoid more extended quarantines in the future.
That is why other cities such as Barranquilla and Medellín will practically close their borders during the weekend and Bogotá will have its own scheme: total mobility restriction which will apply, both for people and vehicles, between 00:00 on Saturday, April 10, 2021 and until 04:00 on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
“The wave is starting in Bogotá, so before things get worse, we are going to stop interacting to mitigate contagion. (…) It is better to stop now for three days than to stop two weeks in the future. (…) On Tuesday it is evaluated whether there will be more quarantines in the coming weekends. It all depends on what is achieved in this 10, 11 and 12.”
Claudia López explained in an interview with Karen Vinasco
The exceptions are:
- Public and private health services and their staff
- Those who are in charge of the elderly, people under 18 years of age, dependents, the sick, people with disabilities and vulnerable people.
- Those who work preserving public order, general security and health care.
- Matters of force majeure or extreme necessity.
Claudia López gave details of the confinement
And it is that many inhabitants of Bogotá have doubts about how the confinement will be of three days that we will have in the capital, that is why we asked the mayor directly, who clarified some details of how this measure will be applied. Several listeners of our station Vibra Bogotá sent us questions through our social networks and here are the answers of the president:
In addition, López clarified why this measure was taken, explaining that the goal of this weekend’s lockdown is to comply with 3 essential points:
- Prevent: Isolate ourselves to reduce infections.
- Identify: Anyone who has any symptoms related to COVID must take a test with their EPS or entity of the subsidized regime.
- Track: Make a map to identify with whom each infected person has been to carry out mass tracking of possible infections.
