Celebrities speak out against ruling on gay marriages

The entertainment world has reacted with joy after the Supreme Court of the United States recognized the rights of homosexual married couples.

The Court declared unconstitutional the law passed by former President Bill Clinton in 1996, which defines marriage as the union between a man and a woman.
With this announcement, married gay men will be able to enjoy federal rights that were previously denied to them, such as receiving a pension or an inheritance from their partner.

The president of the United States Barack Obama commented: «Today’s resolution of DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) is a historic step forward for marriage equality»and added the hashtag #LoveIsLove (Love is love).

The singer Ricky Martinn replied to the US president’s message with the hashtag #LoveIsLove and added “#PROP8 is over (Referring to the Court’s resolution that also invalidated Prop 8, an amendment to the California Constitution that prohibited gay marriage in the state) #DOMA is over.”
