Woman invented that she had cancer to raise money and managed to fool many people

Katie Lynn Shellhorse, a 22-year-old mother of two, had the idea of reassuring people in Polk County, Minnesota, in the United States, that she had cancer and did not have the funds to pay for treatment. To create the feeling and appearance of receiving chemotherapy, the young woman shaved her head several times.

Katie asked for help from her close circle and even used social networks to ask for donations, with which she quickly managed to collect at least 15 thousand dollars (about 56 million Colombian pesos). When her plan seemed to be going great, a relative of hers ended up realizing this twisted deception and she decided to notify the authorities.

The most complicated part of the story is that once the investigations began, it was discovered that Shellhorse spent the fraudulently collected money on alcohol, marijuana and parties. After knowing the details of the deception, the family of the person involved released a statement in which they said that: “We had no prior knowledge of her plan to misdirect us and we will not defend her. We are deeply saddened that our community has been misled. We pray for all those affected and believe that justice will be served.”

Now, Katie Lynn Shellhorse is facing charges for suspicion of robbery by deception, for which he could receive a sentence of one year in prison.
