Learn to combine your backpack

The backpack is a very Colombian type of bag, but combining it poorly can make you look disheveled.

The backpack is an essential garment for Colombians, which we always have hanging on some lace or plate in the house and which we reach for when we feel more patriotic than ever. This accessory, made by indigenous people of our land, has inspired many designers of international statureand they can be seen both in the windows of the most exclusive brands and on world catwalks.

In general terms, there are two types of backpacks, the Arhuacas and the Wayuu. Arhuaca backpacks are original from the ethnic group of the same name that lives in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta; are woven in sheep or industrial wool, cotton or fique, in ranges of earth colors, browns, beige, grayscale and black.

Wayuu backpacks, whose name also comes from the indigenous group that makes them, who live in La Guajira, are characterized by their bright colors and geometric designs. The Wayúu spin wild cotton, wick magüey, aipis and other natural fibers from the region. Then they twist ribbons of goat or beef rope to form threads with which they weave their backpacks.

As you can see, this traditional garment is perhaps the one that most represents our «Colombianity», however, it is not easy to combine, because you can easily look badly groomed. You should keep in mind that the backpack will always make you look sporty, so it is ideal for the jeans day or weekendshowever you can combine it with an elegant look respecting the chromatic continuity of the whole look.
