What is Anonymous?
It is an international movement of anonymous cyberactivists made up of a network of hackers that was born in 2003 in the 4Chan forums, a community in which texts or photos on various topics are published; there the users appear as “Anonymous”. Their worldwide recognition came when they declared themselves enemies of the enemies of Wikileaks and since then they have carried out computer attacks on questionable institutions around the world, causing servers to crash and spreading private data on the Internet.
The group’s motto is «We are Anonymous, we are legion, we do not forgive, we do not forget, wait for us».
In addition, during the framework of the protests of April and May 2021 in Colombia, the organization published a video through its Twitter accounts in which it reminded President Iván Duque of the phrase «what are you talking about old man», but in English: “What are you talking about old man”?
Although the collective uses various accounts by region and country, which change frequently, one of those that is recognized as “official” is @YourAnonCentral. The description states “The official #YAC. Expose human rights abuses. Reports, resistance resources and updates. Actions, not nouns.”
The characteristic mask of this group is inspired by the historical character Guy Fawkesan English revolutionary who tried to bomb the foundations of the British Parliament to assassinate King James I in 1605 during the Gunpowder Plot, a failed plot organized by Catholics against the Protestant aristocracy of the time.
She is also known for the comic series v for Vendetta (1982), which tells the story of a masked militant who seeks to overthrow a fascist British government and the media that supports him; It was made into a movie in 2005.
