People who think they are prettier than they are… would they be sick?

We all know a girl who thinks she is prettier than she really is, right? Well, that would be a mess. And it applies to them too.

Has it happened to you that you know someone, be it a man or a woman, and he or she Act like you’re Miss Universe or Brad Pitt? The funny thing is that their way of behaving does not match reality, because they are rather ugly.

The one who thinks she is prettier, but is not, would suffer from this

Well, they would not do it on purpose, but they would be victims of a disorder called Pibonexia, which would have been generated due to the misuse of social networks such as Instagram, where there is great pressure due to physical appearance.

Keep in mind that this condition is not realbut it was invented by the Spanish comedian Susi Caramelo, although it could well be real, especially at this time, when it is more valuable to pretend than to be.

However, this fictional disorder could have some reality at its core. In fact, a study from the University of Chicago suggests that people see ourselves better than others see us.

And it is that inflated perceptions of one’s physical appearance are a manifestation of a general phenomenon that psychologists call “self-improvement”.

According to this study, the above happens because we are softer when judging ourselves than a stranger, and we do this systematically in various aspects of life:

  • We choose a better photo of ourselves when asked to choose one that most closely resembles us, while we choose more realistic photos of other people.
  • We overestimated the amount of money we would donate to charity while accurately predicting outside donations.
  • We overestimate our probability of voting in an upcoming presidential election, while accurately predicting the probability that others will vote.

What do you think? Write what you think in the comments of this note on our Face fanpage, and share it on your social networks! Especially with those people who suffer from Pibonexia.

And to whom the glove falls…!
