In addition to lint rollers, fabric softener, rubber gloves and vinegar can help to remove dog hair from clothing. When done correctly, washing and drying are also effective ways to remove hair from laundry.
Fortunately, there are now numerous inventions that can solve this problem and make your life easier. Here you will learn the top 6 tips.

#1 Prevention
The less hair gets on your laundry and clothing, the easier it will be to remove. The following tips and tools can help here:
Dog hair falls out either way. So it's not a question of if they will fail, just when. But you can determine the timing yourself by brushing every day.
Our recommendation: Furminator from Amazon.
Personally, I don't know any dog owner who has tried the Furminator and then decided on a classic dog brush. The part is simply brilliant.
The cleaner your floors are, the less hair can get onto your laundry. This robot vacuum cleaner can therefore also remove hair from clothing in an indirect way.
Our recommendation: Robot vacuum cleaner from Amazon.
The device is also so quiet that it does not cause any pain in the dog's ear. And you can check exactly where vacuuming has already taken place in the app at any time.
- Daily caresses
Why not combine brushing with a daily dose of attention? That's pretty much the basic idea of this clever glove brush.
Our recommendation: Glove brush from Amazon.
The rubber nubs catch the hair in no time and massage your four-legged friend at the same time. Alternatively, you can also lightly moisten normal rubber gloves.
The only reason dog hair loves clothes so much is because it becomes electrically charged very quickly. Nylon in particular is known to be a real hair magnet.
Our recommendation: Anti-static spray from Amazon.
This spray prevents your clothing and furniture from becoming electrically charged. This makes it much harder for dog hair to stick. A humidifier has a similar effect here.
To prevent dog hair from getting on your laundry, daily brushing and using a vacuum robot can help. In addition, you can solve the hair problem by using a glove brush and anti-static spray.
#2 Manual removal
Once the dog hair is on your clothes, preventative methods will no longer bring you any improvement. The following things help in this situation:
I use lint rollers almost every day. The adhesive strips allow hair to be removed from clothing within a few seconds.
However, it is better if a second person can help you with this. Alternatively, you can of course also use normal adhesive tape. This is just a little more complicated.
Some vacuum cleaners have special nozzles that you can use to vacuum clothes. Hand-held vacuum cleaners with an “animal hair nozzle” are particularly practical here.
Unfortunately, advertising often promotes cleaning products that are actually of little use. That's not the case with this part.
Our recommendation: Pet hair remover from Amazon.
A simple up and down cycle is enough to remove and collect dog hair without using electricity. It's not a bestseller on Amazon for nothing.
It's not just carpets that are worth knocking out outdoors. The same thing can also make sense with hairy clothing. Especially with dog blankets or a dog cover.
Most people first think of a steam cleaner. However, these products are usually so hot that they either fade or shrink clothing.
On the other hand, you can imagine a steam brush as a kind of flexible iron. The hot steam causes the oils in the hair to dissolve and fall off on their own.
If there is dog hair on your laundry, lint rollers, pet hair removers and vacuum cleaners with a special pet hair nozzle can help. Alternatively, the clothing can simply be shaken out or treated with a steam brush.
#3 Washing machine
The washing machine can be an excellent tool for removing hair from clothes. This is at least true if you follow the following tips:
Fabric softener smoothes the fibers of the laundry. This makes it much harder for dog hair to stick to it and usually comes off on its own during the rinse cycle.
Instead of fabric softener, you can also use 100 ml of white vinegar. This not only has the same effect, but also removes limescale and other dirt at the same time.
Basically, the hotter you wash your clothes, the more the fats in the dog hair dissolve. This removes the hair, but costs more electricity.
Some washing machines have a “Pet Hair Removal program”. In this program level, a particularly large amount of water is used during washing to additionally rinse the clothes.
The only important thing is that you don’t choose the “Eco program”. This means that significantly less water is used, so dog hair tends to remain.
The less laundry you throw into the washing machine drum, the better the water gets into the gaps. This means that dog hair is removed much better.
- Cleaning the lint filter
The lint filter must be clean so that the hair that is rinsed out can flow away. In normal households it is usually sufficient to clean this sieve every 12 weeks.
In a household with dogs, however, I recommend doing this every 2 to 4 weeks. This ensures that a maximum of hair can be removed during washing.
Limescale in the washing machine creates rough surfaces on which dog hair gets stuck. Regular descaling with vinegar or descaling agent is therefore advisable.
If you still find hair in the dry drum after washing, I recommend vacuuming it out with a vacuum cleaner. Otherwise your next wash will suffer.
In addition, small tufts of fur often collect on the rubber coating of the door. You can simply wipe these up with a microfiber cloth.
To remove dog hair from clothing, fabric softener, lots of water, high temperatures and a small load can help when washing. In addition, the lint filter and the drum should always be cleaned and the washing machine should be descaled regularly.
In addition to hot water, additional things in the washing machine can also improve washing performance. Help for depilation here:
The small bristles of adhesive curlers not only get stuck in the hair, but also vice versa. They also automatically catch hair when washing.
The solution? Depending on the capacity, throw between 3 and 6 hair curlers into the drum with your clothes. After washing, all you have to do is remove hair from the curlers.
Some materials charge steadily on their own, attracting dog hair. Nylon tights are a prime example here.
If you still have a few old, holey tights at home, just throw them in the washing machine with your hairy clothes.
Wash balls have strong similarities to hair curlers, except that their rounded shape makes them easier to distribute. They are therefore somewhat more effective.
Our recommendation: Washing balls from Amazon.
The only important thing is that your dog does not have access to these balls. Because of its size and shape, many people mistake it for a toy and even swallow it.
Although these bags do not necessarily remove dog hair from laundry, they protect non-hairy clothing and therefore allow it to be washed separately.
Similar to hair curlers, tennis balls can also serve as hair magnets thanks to their small lint. Simply throw 2-4 balls into the washing machine.
Just make sure that they are quality balls that do not contain any coloring dyes. It is also important that the balls are new and have no damage.
To remove hair from clothes in the washing machine, hair rollers, old tights, tennis balls and washing balls can help. The latter is definitely the most effective option, as washing balls have been designed specifically for this purpose.
#5 Dryer
In addition to the washing machine itself, a dryer is also a great tool for removing hair from laundry. Here are a few tips:
The “cold program” when drying is often enough to remove dog hair. This is because the dryer reduces the electrical charge.
However, the hotter you set the dryer, the more effective it will be. This has to do with the fact that heat removes the oils in the hair, making them easier to loosen.
As with the washing machine, you should also keep the lint filter clean regularly. Every 4 weeks should usually be enough.
Depending on how hairy your clothes were, small tufts of fur may form in the dryer. These are usually so large that they cannot drain away.
I recommend vacuuming these up with a handheld vacuum cleaner. Alternatively, you could “absorb” them with a few extra old nylon stockings. It works the same way.
Both the dryer and washing machine can help remove dog hair from clothes. Drying is more effective under high temperatures. In addition, the drum should always be kept free of hair and the lint filter should be cleaned regularly.
#6 Alternative
Some dog breeds shed so much that it is almost impossible to avoid hair on clothing. But there is a solution for this case too. Is it?
“If you cannot defeat your enemy, ally with him.”
Or to put it another way: If you have hair from your black dog on your black pants, it's hardly noticeable. So you could also just adjust your colors.
Of course, this trick doesn't just apply to clothing, but can also help with dog baskets, dog blankets and all coverings.
For example, I recently bought a brown cover for our “Alex” dog bed and went to the store with some of his fur.
My tip: If I could only choose one out of all the products above, it would be the pet hair remover. In my opinion, that overshadows everything.
